Of course instant coffee from Nestlè was omniscient, even in the most remote areas of the Chiang Mai mountains. But today there is a growing coffee culture developing in this part of Thailand. Even though the Thai people prefer to drink the Ice Coffee with loads of sugar a taste for Latte, Cappuccino and the Espresso is being explored.

Starbucks came to Chiang Mai with a bang and rescued all the Americanos from having to drink McDonald's instant brew called "caution hot" I don't know how they came up with that name for a coffee. Unfortunately Starbucks has rather been a luxery for us. (to be honest, i find their coffee a bit week) Ten years ago Boncafé was the only shop serving proper coffee. But there was only one shop in all of Chinang Mai. Ah Yes there is also Black Canyon which served different coffee's as well.
Today when you go to Chiang Mai there are hundreds of little coffee shops. The cheapest coffee (15 Baht) I found is in the foodcourt of the Tesco shopping center.
The best coffee I had so far is in the Wawee coffee shops. This is a Thai franchise that uses local coffee beans from the Chiang Mai province. I realy like the strong taste of the Latte. So if possible I have my meetings there 😉 It is also the only coffee shop in Chiang Mai I know to make coffee drinking an unforgettable experience……
