Thailand, an aviation hub and prime tourist destination started the tourist high season crippled with the international airport closed since Tuesday night without a sign that it would open soon. The government is unable to get the demonstrators out of Suvarnabhumi airport.
I watched Thai Tv this morning and it seems like any other day. No News. Yesterday a bomb went off in the Government house injuring more then twenty demonstrators who have been occupying the place since a month. It seems like the PAD is taking the country hostage. Hundreds of thousands of people are stranded in Thailand or on other Airports in the region costing millions of dollars. Thai TV showed a report Yesterday about the export industry suffering because orchids and fruits rot at the airports. This will have an huge effect on the already difficult economy in Thailand. High season started in Thailand and I am sure that thousands of travelers had to cancel their holidays and think twice about coming to Thailand in the future.
People are stranded in Airports all around Thailand besides Bangkok. In Chiang Mai the flights out of the Country are booked out till next week and after that there is only business class available as a friend told me who is trying to get a ticket to Singapore. Last night at around 3'clock three airplanes took of Chiang Mai international airport. I wonder where they went.
The demonstrators said they will only leave the airport if the government resigns.
Es hat sich nichts verändert in der Situation an den Flughäfen in Bangkok oder mus man sagen das es eher noch schlimmer wurde. Bangkok gilt als Aviation hub in Südostasien und etwa einhundert tausend reisende kommen durch Bangkok um in andere Länder weiterzureisen. Momentan sitzen etwa einhunderttausend Reisende in Bangkok fest. Internationale Flüge aus Chiang Mai sind bis nächste Woche ausgebucht. Dazu kommt das der ganze Flug Cargo, der durch bangkok kommt auch lahmgelegt wurde. Dies ist ein multimillionenverlust für die eh schon angeknakste Wirtschaft. Dazu kommt noch das der Ruf von Thailand sehr geschädigt sein wird. Es sind nun schon mehr als vier Tage seit es fast nicht möglich ist aus dem land oder per Flugzeug i das land zu reisen. In den umliegenden Ländern sitzen alle fest die in den letzten vier Tagen nach Bangkok reisen sollten oder über Bangkok in dritte Länder weiterreisen wollten. Ich kenne einige Betroffene in China, Kambodscha und Vietnam. Die Polizei und die Regierung scheinen Machtlos den Besetzern gegenüber zu sein.
Ich habe meine Reise abgesagt und werde es auf den Januar verschieben. Ich hätte Freunde in Bangkok getroffen und wäre dann weiter nach Kau Lak gerreist um einen Freund aus der Schweiz zu treffen, der momentan in Kambodscha feststeckt. Ich hatte mit Air Asia gebucht die mir den Flug Rückerstatten, oder auf ein anderes Datum verschieben würden.
Ein Vorteil hat es für uns hier. Keinen Fluglärm mehr. Es gehen nur ganz wenige Flugzeuge von Chiang Mai weg. Sehrwahrscheinlich die paar internationalen Flüge nach Singapore, Kuala Lumpur und Kunming.
Heute ist Freitag (Ja ihr seht recht, ich schreibe mal wieder in Deutsch weil eigendlich der grössste Teil meiner Blogleser Deutschsprachig sind und ich denke es ist Zeit dem gerecht zu werden und hoffentlich meine Leserschaft zu vergrössern) Eben wie gesagt, Heute ist Freitag. Die Situation in Thailand ist unverändert. Die Flughäfen in Bangkok sind nach wie vor besetzt. In den Thai Nachrichten wird über den multimillionen Verlust diskutiert aber eigendlich passiert momentan nichts.
Ich habe Heute Morgen die Rechnungen bezahlt und dann meine Reifen am Truck rotieren, sowie einen Nagel rausziehen lassen (wieso hat das soviele Nägel auf den Strassen?). Jetzt sitze ich im Büro und versuche meine Reisesituation zu lösen. Da kann ich endlich mal weg und nach Bangkok fliegen und gerade dann muss der Flughafen besetzt werden. Konnten die nicht noch eine Woche warten? Jetzt schaue ich ob ich einen Bus oder den Zug nehme und Morgen nach Bangkok düse. Dann am Montag weiter in dden Süden wo ich hoffentlich David antreffen werde der auch unterwegs ist.
Die EDA Schweiz hat auf ihrer Webseite Hinweise für Reisende nach Thailand gegeben. Hier könnt ihr sie nachlesen. Ich bin letzte Nacht von den Bergen gekommen und wusste nichts von all dem was passiert ist. Unterdessen sind beide Flughäfen in Bangkok geschlossen un dich habe auch gehört das Chinag Mai geschlossen ist, obwohl ich dies nicht bestätigen kann. Die Lage wird ernsthafter in in Thailand. Nachdem in den letzten Wochen auch Bombenanschläge verübt wurden und letzte Nacht gab es in der Stadt hier Tote. Als ich Heute Morgen in die Stadt fur habe ich nichts gesehen. Ich hoffe das die Lage sich bald entschärtft. Am Samstag wollte ich nach Bangkok fliegen, aber so wie es aussieht muss ich irgendwie anders runterfahren.
I just came back from a two day trip to the mountains and I am shocked on the development in Thailand. I read the Newspaper and it says "PAD shuts Suvarnabuhmi" The Bangkok International airport has been taken hostage by demonstrators against the government and thousands of people are stranded at the airport. The tourist high season is approaching and Thailand will be soon without tourists if this goes on like this.
I booked a flight to Bangkok for Saturday and I hope I will be able to go at all.
Thailand is a peaceful country. Probably the savest in the region. This afternoon I’m listening to the Swiss Radio DRS 3 and hear about the massive demonstrations in Bangkok. This has been going on for months. Several people were killed in bomb attacks in front of the government house where demonstrators camp. I guess many people stay away from Thailand because of this. The fact is that in the rest of the country is not much to see about this conflict and life goes on as usual. The political situation is quite difficult to understand and as a foreigner I don’t take sides. I hope though for the sake of Thailand that this can be solved soon.
The other week I had a coffee with a friend in the Wawee coffee shop behind Taphae Gate. Wawee is known here for their creative way to serve capouchino’s and latte’s. The draw leeves and hearts into the foam to make it a great experience. The latte I had this time topped everything I ever seen. I was in awe of the temporary art, a creation that lastet but a minute.
Last week a huge pillar of smoke went up into the air. It went on for hours. Global house on the first ring road south of Chiang Mai was burning. Apparently some short circuit caused the fire.
I used to by the PE pipes and alot of different building material and tools for our projects there. Just the week before the fire I got all the doors and windows for the building in Hui Kau Laam. The fire destroyed the middle part of the building and kept the front face intact as well as the back storage where the tiles are.

Barely enough time to update my blog, or sometimes I am just to tired to sit behind my computer. Yesterday I cam from another trip in Hui Kau Laam. Talk with Cati and Mida about the construction project and plans to open a preschool in Hui Kau Laam. I also brought the windows and doors for the house from Chiang Mai. I also visited Enoch who was on an outreach in the Hot area and got very sick. He is doing better but is still very weak. After praying for him I headed back to Chiang Mai. After Chai Pragarn I got stopped by the drug police. After some questioning they let me go quite impressed with my Thai. This brings me to the Thai lesson I had this morning. I actually feel that the Thai lessons I started taking this year are paying off. Communication is becoming much easier. Still I have a long way to go.
